We look for individuals who are motivated by solving challenging problems, excited by interesting projects and new experiences, and who thrive in a friendly, cooperative and inclusive work environment.  As part of the Motus team, you will work with firmware, mechanical and electronics engineers on multiple projects to identify key goals, areas of risk, and mitigation strategies to ensure the best outcome for a wide range of clients and projects (including our own internally developed sport measurement systems).

 

ABOUT THE JOB

​

As an Engineering Physicist your core responsibility will be the design, implementation and validation of physical models, sensor systems, control algorithms and machine learning models to meet the design requirements for a variety of applications.

​

Specific responsibilities will include:
 

  • Design, implementation and validation of physical models and simulations of engineering systems

  • Design, implementation and validation of sensor systems, signal processing and control algorithms

  • Design, implementation, training and validation of machine learning models and processing

  • Applying advanced analytical methods to difficult, non-routine analysis problems,

  • Research and develop physical and statistical models relevant to each project

  • Using statistical analysis to inform design and model development

  • Automating the processing of large models, as well as training and testing operations

  • Solving complex problems with multi-layered, high dimensionality data sets

  • Create and maintain design documentation including specifications, technical drawings, test plans and training materials

  • Support the Engineering Project Lead in the development and successful execution of project plans

  • Support electrical, mechanical and firmware engineers in the integration and validation of design solutions

  • Collaborate with the Motus Engineering Team to work in accordance with, and contribute to the improvement of, Motus Design systems and practices

Qualifications

​

Required qualifications

​

  • BS or BA Sc in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong foundation in Physics, Control System and Signal Processing first principles

  • Strong understanding the fundamentals of Multi-variable Calculus and Linear Algebra

  • Demonstrable proficiency in the application of spatial statistical methods in developing engineering solutions

  • Experience developing applications and data visualization with Python, Matlab, TensorFlow, etc

  • Familiarity with Data Science and Machine Learning algorithms and tools (e.g. deep learning, random forest, support vector machines)

  • Excited by hard technical challenges and self-motivated toward results-oriented problem solving

  • Comfortable working with multi-discipline engineering teams throughout all phases of development

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada and willing to work on-premises in Victoria BC

 

Desirable qualifications

​

  • Experience developing and testing AI-algorithms; preferably in a production environment

  • Experience working with ML frameworks, libraries and packages

  • Understanding of data structures, data modelling and software architecture

  • Experience with Quality Function Deployment

  • Flexible working hours and remote work options to facilitate a balance between work and personal lives. Our goal is to have the entire team generally be available in office, or remotely online, for core hours from 10 am to 4 pm most days and with at least 50% of time in office.
