We look for individuals who are motivated by solving challenging problems, excited by interesting projects and new experiences, and who thrive in a friendly, cooperative and inclusive work environment.  As part of the Motus team, you will work with firmware, mechanical and electronics engineers on multiple projects to identify key goals, areas of risk, and mitigation strategies to ensure the best outcome for a wide range of clients and projects (including our own internally developed sport measurement systems).

 

ABOUT THE JOB

​

As a Mechanical Engineer your core responsibility will be the design,  implementation and validation of mechanical systems to meet design requirements for a variety of applications.

​

Specific responsibilities will include:
 

  • Design, simulate, and test mechanical systems to satisfy project design requirements 

  • Develop CFD and FEA models to characterize and evaluate mechanical design solutions

  • Support the Engineering Project Lead in the development and successful execution of project plans

  • Create, review, and maintain technical drawings, plans, and specifications

  • Support hardware and firmware engineers in the integration and validation of design solutions

  • Seek the advice of the Mechanical Operations Manager for mentoring, best practices, and professional development

  • Collaborate with the Motus Engineering Team to work in accordance with, and contribute to the improvement of, Motus Design systems and practices

Required qualifications

​

  • Bachelor level degree in mechanical engineering or a related field

  • Demonstrable ability to apply engineering concepts, technical analysis, and advanced mathematical principles to design mechanical systems and solve problems

  • Strong CFD and FEA background

  • Working knowledge of Solidworks

  • Excited by hard technical challenges and self-motivated toward results-oriented problem solving

  • Comfortable working with multi-discipline engineering teams throughout all phases of development

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada and willing to work on-premises in Victoria BC

 

Desirable qualifications

​

  • Proficiency with mathematical modelling tools such as Matlab, Octave, MathCAD, and/or sMath 

  • Strong Thermodynamics background

  • Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and/or product life-cycle management (PLM) 

  • Experience with and/or interest in rapid prototyping (3D printing, Desktop CNC, etc.)

  • Proficiency in reading electronic schematics and component datasheets

  • Hands-on proficiency working with wood, metals, plastics

  • Experience with Quality Function Deployment

  • Interest in AI, Machine Learning, and data processing algorithms

  • Strong understanding of math, physics, data analysis of state space systems, and Kalman filtering

  • Flexible working hours and remote work options to facilitate a balance between work and personal lives. Our goal is to have the entire team generally be available in office, or remotely online, for core hours from 10 am to 4 pm most days and with at least 50% of time in office.
